Depression is one of the most common illnesses in society today. 1 in 4 people will be depressed at some stage in their lives. If you suffer from some of the symptoms listed below you may have symptoms of depression.
Feeling sad, loss of interest in your usual activities, changes in weight or appetite, changes in sleep routine, feeling agitated or physically slow, lack of energy, difficulty concentrating, thoughts of death, feeling worthless.
When we feel depressed the world seems like a very dark place and we have difficulty seeing any of the good things that may be happening around us. We seem to have negative thoughts about much of what is happening in our lives and this maintains the depressed feelings.
Although it may not feel like it now
There is light at the end of the tunnel.
Usually when we feel depressed we stop doing the things that gave us pleasure before we were depressed. This helps to maintain the vicious cycle of depression and makes it very difficult to recover. Initially I will help you to change your behaviour in a small way, so that you can begin to get some pleasure back in your life. When your mood has lifted we will work on the negative thoughts that maintain your depression, and then focus on preventing further episodes of depression in the future.
